Godfrey Blagdon Westcott Kent was Initiated at an Emergency meeting on the 20th March 1943. This emergency meeting was held because Mr Kent (at that time) was due to be ordered overseas and wanted to join Masonry before he left. Bro GBW Kent was passed into the second degree on the 10th April 1943 and was soon raised to Master Mason on the 1st May 1943.

After coming back from war, Bro GBW Kent was appointed his first office in the lodge as Steward at the Installation on 12th October 1946. This was his first step on a ladder of fast moving progression. His list of offices are as follows:

In 1963 WBro. Kent was recognized by the Province of Hertfordshire as was given the rank of PPAGDC. On the 3rd of February 1964 Royston Royal Arch Chapter was founded and the Comp G.B.W Kent of Chapter No. 3532 was named on the Charter of Confirmation, at the appointment of the first officers, as PS and became MEZ in 1967. Soon after, ha also took part in the founding of Royston Preceptory, where he was appointed Deputy Marshal.

At the installation meeting of the Royston Lodge on the 10th October 1964, attended by the APGM, WBro G. W Misken PJGD, WBro. G. B. W. Kent acted as Director of Ceremonies and performed so ably that he was subseqently appointed to that office he filled it with dignity and great ability until his appointment of Secrectary of the Lodge six year later.

In 1966 Godfrey Kent was installed MEZ in Cambridge Chapter No. 3532 in the Province of Cambridgeshire Royal Arch Masons and later promoted to the rank of AGDC in the order.

In 1971 he was promoted to PPSGD for his efforts in the Craft. Immediately he was involved in the organsing in the 51st Installation meeting and Golden Jubilee of the Royston Lodge which was held at The Cloisters, Letchworth on Saturday, 30th October 1971. In the same year, he was appointed PGStB in the Royal Arch.

In 1976 WBro. G. B. W. Kent was invested as Assistant Provincial Grand Master, with promotion to SGD in 1978, and, dispite these responsibilities, he had been present at the Consecration of the Royston Preceptory No . 416 on 25th June 1969 and was its Preceptor leter in 1976. He held the rank of PGtA-de-C,PPConst.

On 21st April 1980 the Roysia Cross Rose Croix Chapter No. 874 was consecrated at The Cloisters, Letchworth, and WBro G.B.W. Kent graciously agreed to be agreed to be enthroned as its first Sovereign. The Chapter subsequently met at the Masonic Hall, Royston.

Initiated, passed and raised in three successive Lodge meetings in March, April and May, WBro Kent forty-two years later was appointed Provinicial Grand Master for Hertfordshire at Great Queen Street on 30th May 1985 by RWBro the Rt Hon. Lord Farnham, Assistant Grand Master, on the retirement of RWBro G.M. Halsey. What pleasure this would have given his father WBro J.F. Kent, who passed to the Grand Lodge Above, a few days before his 91st birthday in 1977, that his son, WBro G.B.W. Kent, had been appointed to this supreme office in his own Province.
