Charles Edward Keyser born 1847 in Paddington, London was initiated into Freemason on the 25th May 1867 at the Isaac Newtown University Lodge No. 859. Bro Keyser was raised to the third degree on the 1st March 1869. He not thought to have taken office. A well educated man, Charles attended Eton and Trinity College Cambridge where he took his degree in 1870. It was only a year later Charles married Mary Emma Bagnall
Charles Keyser was a generous benefactor of the principal Masonic Charities, including the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls which he was Patron of also with twenty-six stewardships. He was Patron, Trustee and Chairman of the Board of management, formerly Treasurer, of the Royal Masonic Institution of Boys.
Charles was a full subscribing member of more than thirty Lodges covering many Provinces including London. Of those Lodges he was a past master of twenty-four, and first Master of six Lodges of which he was a founder including Charles Edward Keyser Lodge No. 2518
He was member of the Craft for sixty-one years, Royal Arch Masonry for fifty four years. Charles also held Grand Rank in Craft, Chapter and Mark Masonry. In 1906 he was appointed Deputy Provincial Grand Master and then became Provincial Grand Master in 1924.
